About
Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Bill grew up in a home full of music. His parents exposed him to a variety of musical genres at a young age. Bill and his brothers began playing instruments as soon as they were able.
Always a music lover, Bill began playing the trumpet in sixth grade, followed by piano lessons and classes in music theory. He experimented with music composition in high school, starting with pencil and paper, and eventually using Sibelius to help create his first orchestral scores. Bill received advice from his high school band leader that has stuck with him to this day; constructive criticism that caused him to think more about the structure and craft of music.
Bill attended Providence College where he majored in Music with a focus on Composition. Bill transitioned from trumpet to French horn, while also continuing to gain proficiency in piano and guitar. He studied under world-class composer Roger Cichy, his mentor and friend, where he learned the nuances of orchestral composition.
Bill has composed for orchestra for the past twenty years. He has also composed for concert band, brass quintet, sax quartet, flute trio, chorus, and jazz ensembles. His pieces range from four-minute stand-alone songs to multi-movement orchestral suites. He has written for high schools, colleges, and professionals.
Bill’s influences come from a variety of places. From the film world: John Williams, Bernard Herrmann, James Horner, Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, Jerry Goldsmith, Joe Hisaishi, and Danny Elfman. From the video game world: Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, Koji Kondo, Michiru Yamane, Jack Wall, Yoko Shimomura, and Noriyuki Iwadare. From the classical world: Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Wagner. And from the pop/rock world: Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Bill lives in Massachusetts with his wife, daughter, and four cats.
